Dangerous Goods Function Specific Training and Assessment for Shippers by Air (ICAO/IATA Edition 64); This training course is intended for hazmat employees, as defined in §171.8 of the Hazardous Materials Regulations, preparing shipments for transport by air applying International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR).

IATA training is required for hazmat employees who are:
  • Classifying dangerous goods
  • Responsible for preparing and offering dangerous goods for air transportation
  • Selecting packaging, preparing packages, marking, or labeling dangerous goods
  • Validating prepared packages for compliance
  • Responsible for preparing or signing dangerous goods shipping papers
 Dangerous Good Function Specific Training Course for Shippers by Air meets the regulatory training standards set out in the 49 CFR §172.704 and IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations Sub-Section 1.5 for all dangerous goods employees involved in the safe transportation of dangerous goods by air and includes all recent amendments, including testing of participants. This training course is based on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Instructions requirements. This training is designed for shippers/packers previously identified as categories 1 and 3 as defined in the IATA DGR in Table 1.5A.

 This course does not cover the more detailed requirements for the shipment of radioactive materials under the IATA regulations.

  • Navigation of the IATA DGR to determine classification/identification, selecting and filling packaging, marking, labeling, applying limited quantity and excepted quantity exceptions, and documentation requirements for safe the transportation of dangerous goods (DG) by air.

  • Shippers, third party logistics companies and freight forwarders (i.e., dangerous goods employees and their supervisors) who handle, package, mark, label, prepare packages or validate shipping papers and offer dangerous goods for transport by air.
